A CAIRNS man has thrown in his job and is planning his retirement after winning Wednesday night’s $1 million Gold Lotto draw.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was the only division one winner across Australia.
He said he only had another year or so to go until his retirement but the win made up his mind.
”I just had a look at the results online a quarter of an hour ago. I’ve been back on about five times to confirm it’s right,” he said.
The man plans to use his winnings to buy his first home, a new car and help his family.
The winning ticket was purchased from Raintrees Newsagency in Cairns.
Raintrees Newsagency owner Sharryn Stokes said the store was celebrating selling another division one winning entry.
“Everyone tells us we’re a lucky shop and it looks like it’s come to fruition,” she said.
“The last time we sold a division one winning ticket was just over two years ago in June 2014 and we sold actually sold two in one week.
“Back then, we sold a winning ticket in the Wednesday Gold Lotto and then one later that week for the Saturday Gold Lotto. With this week’s $21 million Superdraw, perhaps we’ll do the same thing again this weekend.”
