This year’s Callide Dawson Carcase Competition has attracted record grainfed nominations.
A total of 393 entries were consigned to Warnoah feedlot at Moura, which surpassed the previous record of 244 head.
Competition organiser Michael Bradshaw said due to high numbers entered a decision was made to split the trade classes, so the steers and heifers will be judged separately this year, creating two new classes.
“Dry conditions have helped to boost entry numbers, while the competition is gaining in strength every year becoming one of the top events for the beef industry in Queensland,” Mr Bradshaw said.
“This area has a fantastic reputation for beef production, so the carcase competition creates a lot of interest.”
A field day to view the carcase competition cattle will be held on May 26 at Warnoah feedlot.
The 70 day trade steers and heifers will be processed on May 29 and the 100-day grainfed export steers will be processed on June 12.
The competition winners will be announced at a gala dinner on June 30.
