Campdraft communities across southern Queensland are coming together to help one of their own.
Next Saturday, the Brymaroo and Cooyar campdraft committees will host a full weekend of events at the Brymaroo campdraft grounds, with the aim of raising much needed funds for well-known horse identity Rick Seeds.
Oakey Beef Exports livestock manager and secretary of the Brymaroo Campdraft association, Mr Kurt Wockner, said ex-rodeo rider and horse trainer, Mr Seeds, was severely injured in a horse accident last November, resulting in a spinal injury that will see him confined to a wheelchair.
“A lot of people know Rick and his family and we also know he led a very active lifestyle which will now be altered,” Mr Wockner said.
“As anyone knows, with serious injuries, such as paraplegia, comes immense expenses and we want to help Rick and Sally in a small way through fundraising at this special rodeo, campdraft and auction,” he said.
The event will kick off on April 1 with an invitational bull ride at 4pm, followed by an auction and camp oven dinner.
The open campdraft on April 2 will carry more than $5000 in prizes.
“We are hoping people from surrounding districts come along and get involved, especially to the auction, as we are hoping to raise significant money to help with modifications to Rick’s house as well as take a bit of the financial pressure off,” Mr Wockner said.
He said the support from the horse community and business houses has been strong, with prizes and cash donated towards the cause.
“The Wagner family are offering return flights to be auctioned and Welsh Horse and Saddle have contributed a custom made saddle, which will also be worth bidding on,” he said.
Other prizes include concrete from Ostwald Bros and a bull credit from Danarla Brahman Stud.
Mr Wockner said all they needed now were for people to turn up and enjoy great entertainment.
