The wait is nearly over for the Capricornia Yearling Sale (CYS) carnival taking place in Rockhampton from March 31 to April 2.
The Carnival will be off and racing on Friday, March 31 with the full TAB card $110,000 Rockhampton Mayor’s Plate taking place at Rockhampton Jockey Club’s (RJC) Callaghan Park.
Be sure to also get out your best outfit, favourite hat and fancy shoes for the popular Chandon Hats and Heels High Tea again being held on the Friday afternoon from 12pm to 5pm.
The Rockhampton Jockey Club’s (RJC) Kelly Suli said the event is sure to be a big winner with guests, with the always entertaining Allana Gregson returning to MC.
“High tea guests will receive a beverage package including a selection of Chandon wines, and they’ll have a chance to win fantastic lucky door prizes,” she said.
She said a silent auction will be taking place with all proceeds going to National Jockey Trusts.
On Saturday April 1 a classic day of racing will ensue for two and three-years-old’s with more than $200,000 in prize money up for grabs during a high quality six race program with full TAB coverage. The day will be highlighted by the $118,000 Capricornia Yearlings Sale 2YO Classic (1200m).
After the action on the track finishes up attention will turn to the Rockhampton Showgrounds on Sunday, April 2 from 11am for the 2017 Capricornia Yearling Sale which this year features an outstanding catalogue of 87 QTIS horses.
Be sure to dress in your finest as well with over $3000 in prizes up for grabs in the Sharon Mylrea Fashions on the Field competition.
CYS Chairman Jeff Leaver said the carnival is shaping up to be “a magnificent three days of races and sales”.
“I have been contacted by several breeding analysts and they’ve told me our catalogue on pedigree is our best ever,” Mr Leaver said.
Courtesy of Aquis Farm, one lucky owner is in the running to snare Rockhampton racing’s richest winning prize money purse next year. Aquis will pay the winning owner of the 2018 Capricornia Yearlings Sale’s 2YO Classic (1200m) a $100K bonus if the winner was purchased from its draft on offer at the 2017 CYS.
If one of these yearlings progress to win the 2018 CYS Classic, based on this year’s prize money pool, the purchaser and subsequent winning connections would share $164,000.
“This puts the Capricornia Yearling Sale under the spotlight Australia wide.”
