ORGANISERS of the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride have been forced to postpone the event due to dry conditions and extremely high fire danger along the trails.
The ride was set to be held on the first weekend of April but outgoing President Dave Golding yesterday announced the event had been postponed in the best interests of the horses, riders and support crews.
“After close consultation with property owners, we have concluded that the likelihood of enough rain to significantly reduce the fire risk by march 31 is too low to proceed with our event as scheduled,” he said in a press release.
“Conditions on the trails are tinder-dry at the moment.”
The event will now take place on the weekend starting on September 29 this year.
