THEY might be only small but the Bymount community sure know how to have fun.
Locals gathered at the Bymount Community Hall on Saturday for the second RED Day celebration organised by the Bymount Community Recreation Association.
The family fun day aimed at raising money for LifeFlight and local ambulance services in honour of well-known helicopter pilot Jeff “Red” Dean who died in a helicopter crash while mustering north of Mitchell in May 2015.
There was everything from trap throwing to desert ski racing but it was cane toads wearing capes that drew the biggest excitement.
The 13 toads were auctioned off prior to racing with Blue Bird, named after Red’s chopper, selling for $700.
Movvy Stanford, Dave Thomas and Danny Sutton were all smiles after their toad Midstrength Mick, which they purchased for $420 won the race and saw them pocket $2943.
The overall funds tally is still being finalised but the event was so successful last year it raised more than $23,000.
