Stanbroke Pastoral Co has been given the green light to increase its feedlot at Chinchilla.
The Western Downs Regional Council has approved Stanbroke’s application to increase the capacity of its existing 25,000 Standard Cattle Units to 40,000 SCU, representing an increase of 60 percent.
The expansion will create an additional 15 jobs, increasing the workforce to 63 staff.
Western Downs Regional Council spokesman for Planning and Environment, Cr Andrew Smith, said the region is on a development roll, with business and investment occurring in all sectors from energy to agriculture to retail.
“The modern new facility has been assessed to meet rigorous environmental standards designed to minimise impacts to the surrounding environment,” Cr Smith said.
“Conditions relating to road access were included in the approval to address community concerns.”
The Stanbroke feedlot is supplied with a Stanbroke-bred and bought-in feeder cattle ranging from F1 to full-blood Wagyu and Angus for its brand beef programs.
Cattle are fed for the long-fed Wagyu to 120-day Angus, 100-Diamantina Platinum, and 70-day Diamantina Gold domestic brands.
