There was 800 head of cattle penned for the first Clermont store and prime cattle sale of the year.
It was a good quality yarding with 300 prime and 500 store cattle consigned on Wednesday February 15. Majority of the store cattle were light weight steers and heifers.
Hoch and Wilkinson’s livestock agent Jake Passfield said the cattle prices were very good.
“Quoted prices of the day were feeder steers that made up to 324c/kg and weaner steers that made up to 347c/kg,” Mr Passfield said.
He added light weight heifers sold to 310c/kg in the 220kg to 300kg weight category.
“A run of EU prime heifers made 267c/kg for 552kg to return $1475,” he said.
“Cattle weights this year aren’t too bad due to the winter rain, but the season is beginning to shorten up.
“Most people have had a little start with some summer rain, but are looking for a bit more for their growing season.”
Clermont Saleyards is planning a store and prime combine cattle sale each month.
“We are expecting around 800 to 900 head of cattle at the next Clermont sale if the weather conditions remain dry,” Mr Passfield said.
