TOP lines of Angus and Senegus cattle will fill the Barcaldine Saleyards on Friday, February 24 from 10am for the seventh annual Australian Topstock Barcaldine Bull Sale.
A total of 156 bulls have been catalogued for the sale which are being offered by three leading Angus Studs.
Australian Topstock sale coordinator James Lilburne said the draft is comprised of an exceptional lineup of 95 Angus bulls, 40 Red Angus and Red Senegus sires, 20 Black Senegus Sires and four Angus-cross Greys.
“Every year we’ve held the sale we’ve always had positive comments from buyers about the great quality of the bulls presented, and this years draft is no different,” Mr Lilburne said.
Mr Lilburne said he’s noticed that the interest shown by Queensland beef producers in acquiring Angus cattle has increased markedly each year based on how the sale has progressed since it began.
He said Australian Topstock specialise in sourcing all breeds of bulls, and that Angus bulls are a “powerhouse on their own, their is a huge demand for them”.
“Most of the bulls that have been purchased at the sale have gone into high end commercial properties for crossbreeding and line breeding purposes across the state.
“They can be put over any breed to produce ideal flatback females and/or steers.
“The Angus breed provides another option for Queensland producers wishing to incorporate Angus attributes into their herds.”
He said all bulls catalogued for the sale will be available for inspection by prospective purchasers from 8am sale day and that supplementary sheets will be provided by individual vendors on the day of the sale.
Elite Livestock Auctions managing director Chris Norris will be conducting the sale and Richard Simpson from Simstock Rural will be settling the sale.
Nick and Sara Moyle, Pathfinder Angus, Gazette, will be offering 75 powerful Pure Angus bulls in Lots 1 to 32 and again in Lots 97 through 136.
Mike and Joy Gadd, The Glen Angus, Walwa, have selected a sale draft that includes 20 excellent Pure Angus sires and four Angus-Cross Grey bulls that will enter the ring in Lots 73 to 96.
Robert and Anthony Close, KW Red Angus & Senegus will be presenting 40 superb Red Senegus sires in Lots 33 through 72 and 20 quality Black Senegus bulls in Lots 137 to 156.
Mr Lilburne said he’s hoping the cattle going under the hammer are met by an enthusiastic buyers gallery on the back of better climatic conditions over the last 12 months in the region compared to the three dry years prior to 2016.
“Conditions in some areas have changed dramatically, and in the current beef industry climate, I’d expect there will be increased demand for these bulls.
“Prospective buyers will be saving close to $400 in freight costs by being able to purchase these bulls in their own backyard, which will hopefully further entice producers in the region to attend the sale.
“They’d also be hard pressed to find commercial herd bulls of this high level of quality anywhere else.”
Mr Lilburne said this will be the seventh year the sale will be held in Barcaldine, and Australian Topstock is dedicated to the sale.
“We’ve found the central facilities, the ground staff and the very well managed yards are perfect for the sale.”
