The H.M. Clarke Saleyards - commonly referred to as Dalrymple Saleyards - was opened in 1968.

Fat and store sales are conducted every Wednesday, dependent upon numbers, at the saleyards. Cattle producers can consign their cattle by contacting their preferred agent. Charters Towers Combined Agents are the facilitators of the weekly sales.

The Charters Towers Regional Council is continually upgrading the facilities at its saleyards making it the major facility in North Queensland.

Dalrymple Saleyards is NLIS compliant and has 110 sale pens and holding yard capacity of close to 10,000 head, two full deck cattle (and one vehicle) weighbridges, cattle and vehicle wash down facilities, dipping and washing facilities.

Council is registered with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry as an offline tick clearing centre and also holds AQIS accreditation as a live export holding yard.  Dalrymple Saleyards also has an agent's office, toilet facilities and an amenities building for the serving of food and drinks.

Council is continuing with ongoing improvement and upgrades of the saleyards and will continue to provide a suitable venue for livestock to be sold efficiently. This provides the potential for an increase in throughput, to maintain a competitive market position so that economic benefits continue to flow to industry, business and the wider Charters Towers regional community.

During 2016, Charters Towers Regional Council installed additional lighting the saleyards, which has enabled safer and more efficient operating within the saleyards facility which often operates 24 hours a day, especially with live cattle export activity.

Additional lighting will be installed during 2017 at the truck wash bay supporting users of the facility at night time. Future improvements are scheduled to occur during the 2017-18 financial year including additional resurfacing of holding pens and structural improvements to enhance operations.
