Dalby-based farmer Steve McDonald recently started dabbling in photography and was very surprised to hear he had won the #Qldharvest16 photo competition.
His winning photo was captured of a storm rolling in while he was contract harvesting for Lachlan and Fiona Hill, at Undulla, Meandarra. The crop of Suntop wheat went on to yield 3.2 tonne/hectare.
“I thought I wouldn’t have a chance,” he said.
“When I put it on Facebook I got a lot of stick from my mates but a friend tagged me and said you should enter your photo in this competition and away it went.”
Mr McDonald is the manager of Nacha Farming, Dalby, owned by Angela Bradley. He receives a fair bit of curry from his mates for his interest in iPhone photography.
“When you’re out contract harvesting you get a lot of spare time so I’ve been taking photos of the headers, storms and lightning.”
He will receive a $500 prize, courtesy of the competition’s sponsor, Pacific Seeds.
