With the last sale for the year held at Emerald on December 8 just under 1000 head were penned.
The quality was mixed, however there were some good quality lines in the yearling and vealer classes. The yarding came from local areas mostly with some from Jericho.
Heavy bullocks over 550kg made to 295c/kg to average 271c, 500-550kg steers returned 299c to average 264c, with steers 400-500kg making to 331c to average 300c. Steers 320-400kg made to 390c to average 334c, while steers in the weaner weight ranges made to 407c to average 371c.
Heavy heifers over 400kg made to 399c to average 277c, while heifers 300-400kg sold to 307c to average 286c, with heifers in the weaner weight ranges selling to 315c to average 262c.
Cows over 520kg made to 247c to average 235c, while cows 400-520kg made to 238c to average 227c. A few lots of cows and calves were present with the best to $1585 per unit.

Lloyd and Margaret Hanrahan, Palari, Comet sold Brahman cross bullocks to 295c to weigh 674kg or $1990, Col and Trina Hoy, Green Valley, Bogantungan consigned Brangus cross steers to 335c and weighed 319kg or $1070. Greg and Alicia Magee, St Omer, Capella sold Brangus steers to 330c to weigh 409kg or $1350, the Vallis family, Jo Jo, Alpha sold Charolais cross steers to 404c to weigh 241kg or $974.
The Goodwin family, Malthoid, Capella offered Brahman cross cows reaching to 247c to weigh 522kg or $1290, Lawrence and Pat Hack, Rocklea, Alpha sold Euro cross cows with Euro cross calves at foot for $1585 per unit.
EYCI Update
At the close of last week’s markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) settled 3c lower on where it had finished the previous day, at 638.25c/kg cwt. Trade steers held firm on 342c/kg lwt. Medium steers were back 2c, at 292c. Heavy steers jumped 3c, to 298c. Medium cows held steady on 233c. Feeder steers slipped 2c, to 345c.
