The world’s best ever cricket all-rounder, Sir Garfield Sobers, from the West Indies, made the first appearance of his Australian tour at a lunch held at Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport today.
More than 350 cricket enthusiasts attended the event to hear one of the greatest players of all time share his insights into the sport.
Sir Garfield Sobers was joined former Australian Test cricketer Dean Jones on stage along with moderator, TV sports presenter Sam Squiers, for The Longest Over lunch panel discussion.
Sir Garfield Sobers played for the West Indies for 20 years until he retired in 1974. He took part in 93 Test matches, scored 26 Test centuries, took 235 Test wickets and retired with a batting average of 57.78.
Proceeds from lunch will go to “It’s A Bloke Thing Foundation’ for prostate cancer research and education.
