Mareeba Combined Agents yarded a reduced total of 485 head and 31 cow and calf units for this week’s Prime and Store Sale.
The prospects of cheaper cattle in the market place drew a few more store buyers, three local wholesalers and no major export processors attended this week.
Some buoyant competition on captured bulls pushed values well above last week’s subdued rates.
Steers suitable for the local trade struggled to hold the top of 279.2c/kg, back 14c. Heifers suitable for the butchers market came under pressure and reached the high of 264c/kg down 42c.
A pen of very good Droughtmaster Ox returned to the paddock at 262c/kg. A pen of Brahman cross cows returned to the paddock with the best realising 222c/kg.
