The heating of the therapeutic pool at the Texas Multipurpose Health Service (MPHS) has been upgraded thanks to a grant of almost $32,000.
Texas MPHS Director of Nursing /Facility Manager Ms Marya Hayward said the Texas Hospital Auxiliary had applied to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) for funding to upgrade the existing heating systems for the pool.
“We were very pleased that the auxiliary was successful in securing a grant of $31,838.40 to complete the project,” Ms Hayward said.
“The upgraded equipment includes a solar heat pump and thermal blanket and roller that have already been installed, with a dehumidifier to come.
“These changes will help to improve the safety and comfort for clients with reduced wet surfaces and slip hazards.
“The dehumidifier will help control the atmosphere of the interior of the pool building through improved temperature control and a reduction in humidity and condensation.
“This in turn will help reduce the infrastructure maintenance needed as the dryer atmosphere will mean metal surfaces won’t corrode as much and the performance of therapy equipment will improve.
“Another bonus is the savings we expect of more than $8000 a year in energy costs.”
Ms Hayward thanked the auxiliary for working to put together the grant submission.
“We are very grateful to the members of the Texas MPHS Auxiliary for all they do to support the facility and benefit clients,” she said.
“The auxiliary has also established the onsite fully equipped gymnasium which, with the therapeutic pool, is a valuable combined asset to promote the health and wellbeing of the local community.
“Around 40 clients use the pool each month, even in winter, with staff and community members also using the facility for things like aqua aerobic classes.”
