Bazadaise and Brangus breeders, Rodney and Karen Johannesen, Folkslee Stud, Malarga, could not have been happier with results from their recent open day.
Mr Johannesen described the event as ‘fantastic’. “The positive response generated interest and resulted in many bull and female private sales, he said.
“Several deals were done on the day and negotiations are continuing.
“We had earlier enjoyed some sales leading into the day, so I included some yearling polled bulls for the first time, to make up sufficient numbers for sale.
The couple hosted about 35 people, and while a fewe were repeat clients, the balance attended to learn more about crossing breeding using Bazadaise bloodlines as a terminal sire.
The Johannesens first started breeding Bazadaise in 1995, when they joined them polled Santa Gertrudis cows.
They bred the first polled purebred Bazadaise female in 2005.
Today, the Folkslee Stud has nine Bazadaise polled female family lines producing polled genetics.
Interest was drawn from NSW, Darling Downs, Maranoa, Fraser Coast as well as many locals.
Many said the highlight was enjoying the tender, juicy, Bazadaise/Brahman cross barbecue lunch.
