The three-day arts and cultural festival has developed and grown into a destination event for central western Queensland and attracts visitors statewide.
Focusing on its arts and cultural heritage, the program includes exhibitions in art and photography, bush poetry, Colour Run, BBQ Cook Off competition and live music, then changes direction with a bull ride, High Tea and race day that show off other local lifestyle pursuits.
The festival also showcases Blackall’s important history in sheep and wool as well as celebrating the Jackie Howe blade shearing record that was set in 1892 on a nearby Blackall property.
The Sunday program has its venue located at the historic Blackall Woolscour, the only operating Woolscour of its kind in the world.
The day provides a platform for all things sheep-related with a Shearers’ Breakfast, blade shearing demonstrations, sheep races, whip cracking workshops, Woolscour tours, a wheelwright display, woodchopping, market stalls and the festival’s iconic event, the Blades and Blisters Jack Howe Challenge.
