Around 160 people will walk 42km along the Peninsula Developmental Road on Cape York this weekend to raise awareness of mental health issues.
Conquer the Corrugations was first held in 2015.
It was initiated by the Jackson family, Wolverton Station, after Dillon Jackson, son of Debbie and Kevin Jackson, took his own life in 2014.
Dillon’s family and community decided to put their energies towards removing the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
Walkers will set off from Coen at 8am on Saturday and walk through to 28 Mile Lagoon at Wolverton Station that afternoon.
Sunday sees the walk continue from the station to Archer River Roadhouse.
Walk coordinator and Dillon’s aunt Emma Jackson, Wolverton Station, thanked the community for their support in advance.
“To those whom have contributed, time, food, monetary donations, merchandise, equipment and more, thank you very much,” Mrs Jackson said.
“You are the one making this happen.”
Travelers on the PDR this weekend are reminded to take care if approaching the walkers. Signage will be erected and the walk’s support crew will UHF radios if contact needs to be made.
