For the seventh year in a row, Sir William Allen and family look like having Blackall’s best cattle prices, thanks to an exceptional result from their AuctionsPlus sale on Friday.
One of the larger mobs offered through the system, 398 head, the Forest Park Santa Gertrudis blood steers received a top price of $955 or 450 cents per kilogram, for the 65 in the lightest line, weighing in at 212kg.
The next weight range mob, 154 head averaging 263kg, brought $1145 a head or 435c/kg, while the heavyweight line of 179 head, averaging 316kg liveweight, were sold for $1300 a head or 411c/kg.
All up, the steers averaged $1184 a head or $4.25/kg.
According to Landmark’s AuctionsPlus livestock coordinator, Col Campbell, it was the top of the market.
He said large mobs worked well on the system, where vendors were able to receive the same price for each beast.
He assessed the cattle, paralleled by Blackall livestock account manager Matt Henry.
Sir William said he had never experienced that price for cattle before.
While he sold similar cattle on AuctionsPlus last year as well, this is the first time he’s sold that number of cattle through the system.
“There’s less handling and less transport costs for the larger numbers,” he said.
While happy with the price received, Sir William said he couldn’t understand why heifers and PTIC cows weren’t bringing more money in the current climate.
“It’s been very rewarding, but I’m just disappointed that so many properties have forced to sell stock and now have a minimum of equity to fund any restocking with,” he said.
