BUYERS turned out in force for David and Prue Bondfield's 32nd annual Palgrove bull sale, delivering a $52,000 top and a $10,848 average for a complete clearance of the 158 exceptional quality Charolais and Ultrablack bulls on offer.
In a massive endorsement of the Palgrove breeding program and the ongoing confidence of the commercial cattle market, the record busting sale attracted buyers from three states drawn by the appeal of high performance bulls particularly suited to crossbreeding enterprises.
In breakdown the red hot sale at Dalveen saw 114 Charolais average $10,662 and 44 Ultrablacks average $11,330 as buyers scrambled to secure high performance genetics.
The $52,000 sale topper was the superbly conformed poll Palgrove Kruze by Palgrove Gangster which went to repeat buyer Ben Avery, Blackall. The 996kg 24 month old drew plenty of attention for his size and depth from the big crowd and reinforcing catalogue results showing a massive 144sq cm eye muscle area, 9mm of fat on the rump, and 8mm on the rib. At 6.1 per cent, Kruze also had the top intramuscular fat recordings of the Charolais draft.
Second top price at $50,000 was the Palgrove Kingdom (P) by Silverstream Evolution who was bought by repeat buyers the Hopgood family, Enmore Charolais, Goondwindi. The 24 month old had a impressive 140sq cm EMA and drew plenty praise from the eager crowd.
Also in strong demand at $40,000 was the red factor poll Palgrove Kudos by the highly regarded sire Palgrove Hallmark. Kudos, who had a huge 148sq cm EMA, went to Jim Wedge and Jackie Chard, Ascot Stud, Warwick.
Palgrove Hallmark also produced the red factor poll Palgrove Kenworth, which was knocked down to Bailey Properties, Blackall, for $38,000. Bailey Properties also took home Palgrove Kidman
Volume buyer Len Bode, McKinlay, took home nine for an average $16,222. His top $36,000 pick was the red factor poll Palgrove Kolossal by Silver Bar 4216. Mr Bode also paid $25,000 for Palgrove Kennedy by Palgrove Gallivant.
Uardry, Winton, paid $27,000 for the Palgrove Kingston a polled, red factor ET son of TR Red Smoke. The young sire has a 132sq cm EMA, and 12mm of fat on the rump and 8mm on the rib.
Consolidated Pastoral Company bought two Charolais and two Ultrablacks. CPC paid $24,000 for Palgrove Kapital by Palgrove Hallmark, a 24-and-a-half-month old with an outstanding 147sq cm EMA, a 10mm rump, and a 7mm rib.
Tuan Stud, Innisfail, also bought two Charolais and two Ultrablacks including the $22,000 for the homozygous poll Palgrove Kracker by Palgrove Gunsmoke. Tuan secured the second top priced Ultrablack at $20,000 for Palgrove Knockout by Braveheart of Stern. Knockout had an impressive 146sq cm EMA. Tuan also bought the Ultrablack Palgrove King for $15,000.
The red factor bull Palgrove Kid went to repeat buyers Nogoa Pastoral Company, Emerald, for $21,000. The poll red factor bull by the favoured TR Red Smoke sire had a was one of four soft, easy fleshing Charolais bought by Nogoa.
The Donnelly family, Glen Innes, paid $20,000 for the standout poll, red factor Palgrove Kahlua by Palgrove Heritage.
The 44 Ultrablacks were in particularly strong demand, with Palgrove Kingpin selling for a new Australian record of $24,000. Bred by the influential sire Texas Star, the 866kg 23-and-a-half-month old was very popular with the crowd with an impressive 140sq cm EMA and a index leading 7.3pc IMF rating. Kingpin sold to Brangus breeders Mick and Tanya Madden, Duaringa.
Other high sellers in the Ultrablack section included Palgrove Kilo which sold to Melrose Station, Killarney, paid $15,000. Julie Langan, Bingara, bought two to a top of $15,000 for Palgrove Kingdom by Nindooinbah H343. Cockatoo Cattle, Wandoan, bought a pair of impressive ET sons by Hannibal of Brinks for an average $12,250.
Ultrablacks volume buyer Girraween Properties, Bonshaw, bought six for an average $10,583. Pick of their draft was the $13,000 Palgrove Kinsman by Triple B Global G112.
