The results of pasture trials being undertaken by Rob and Mandy White at Wilangi Brahmans, south of St Lawrence will be examined during an on-property field day on Thursday September 1.
The trials which are an initiative of Capricornia Catchments Inc. through sponsorship by MLA are being conducted by Ross Newman of Savage Barker & Backhouse (SBB) and provides the perfect chance for graziers to assess various improved pasture species which include a range of legumes and tropical grasses.
QDAF, senior agronomist Stuart Buck will explain how better agronomy can provide reliable establishment of legume/grass species to boost long term beef production by 50-100 per cent.
He will show the results of establishment methods conducted in several locations and outline how improved paddock preparation leads to reliable establishment and excellent production.
After the presentations a paddock walk will look at the range of plots, displaying eleven different grass cultivars and six legume cultivars, with the aim of identifying cultivars most suited to the environment along the coastal strip east of the Bruce Highway from Miriam Vale to Sarina.
Before the rain in July, the site had been grazed, and the field walk will provide an opportunity to examine which cultivars were favoured more than others and how they responded since grazing.
