Her name is Joy and that’s what she’s offering isolated people looking for help in the confusing world of food and fitness.
All the issues that puzzle and confront - carbs and sugar, hormones and weight, tackling time - are front and centre of a three-part teleseminar series being offered by outback Queensland’s fitness guru, Joy McClymont.
As the holder of the QRRRWN 2015 Strong Women Leaders Award in Business for her user-friendly approach to health for people in rural areas, the mother of four and qualified personal trainer already has plenty of runs on the board as far as this topic goes.
“The Australian government might be promoting a ‘Get Moving’ campaign, but there are many people in this country who are isolated, and who, for a wide variety of reasons, are not able to participate in sport, access gyms, home exercise equipment or even professional support,” she said. “These men and women, who are just as confused about food and fitness as the rest of us, are looking for help.”
Joy has created a new way to fit fitness into isolated life using whatever is available - a rock, a tree stump, a step, a can of beans or nothing at all but a wall and a floor - and is helping others do the same through her company, Off The Track Training.
“We are very focused on providing achievable solutions for our clients,” she explained.
“Being rural and remote myself provides me with greater insight into how to be fitter and healthier without access to gyms, face-to-face fitness sessions, well-stocked supermarkets or specialised equipment.
“Each program is suitable for a particular level of fitness with a range of support and accountability processes.
“I believe that everyone should have access to professional health and fitness solutions that can fit within our priorities and time commitments – even in isolation.”
Her program is accessed either online or via USB for those with slow internet.
Along with qualified naturopath Stacey Curcio, Joy will now dig deeper into the ‘big three’ issues - fitness, food and motivation - through the free teleseminar series beginning on Tuesday evening.
“We’ll be covering everything from macronutrients, tackling time, hormones and weight, moving and motivation, to guts ‘n’ brains,” Joy said. “We want people to get access to as much information as possible, including how to get over the excuses, and the carbs and sugar issues.”
