Residents of the electorate of Toowoomba South now have clarity on their state representation after voters visited the polls to vote in a by-election, last weekend.
As counting has now entered its second day, LNP’s David Janetzki has claimed victory, as the elected member for Toowoomba South.
With counting still underway by the electoral commission, Mr Janetzki has gained 55.59 per cent of the two party preferred vote, with only the remaining postal votes to count.
Mr Janetzki was born in Toowoomba and raised on the family dairy farm at Bymaroo, and he runs cattle on the Darling Downs.
He is deeply engaged with the local community having worked closely with many groups across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs including aged care, mental health services, small business, the arts, local government, land management, sporting clubs, schools and various charitable causes.
“I am honoured the people of Toowoomba South have elected me as their representative in the Queensland Parliament,” he said.
“I thank them for showing their confidence in me and they have my word I will give them my all and be a strong voice for our region in State Parliament.
“I promise to work hard for them every day as part of the experienced, competent and enthusiastic LNP team.
“My priorities will be to grow local jobs and small business and to ensure Toowoomba South gets the health and education services our region needs.
“I hope to continue the LNP’s strong record of delivering to the people of our community to ensure Toowoomba South is a safe place to live, work and raise a family.”
Prior to standing in the Toowoomba south by-election, Mr Janetski began working life as a lawyer and worked for a time overseas.
Returning home to Toowoomba a decade ago, Mr Janetzki worked in senior leadership positions at Toowoomba’s Heritage Bank, lectured at the University of Southern Queensland, and gained experience from appointments to local, regional and state boards.
