THE Queensland Outback Barbarians have delivered, winning all eight games on the 2016 Canada/US tour.
The Barbas put 74 points on the Eugene Stags in Eugene, Oregon, in a generally scrappy affair this afternoon.
It is the first time since 2010 and only the second time in the club’s history that a Queensland Outback Barbarians team has been undefeated on tour.
Man of the match Adam Conway (Mackay) playing in the centres was the standout, well supported by ever reliable second rower Brendan McKeown (Bundaberg) and hard working flanker Andre Van Staden (Toowoomba). Prop Cameron Knights (St George) also broke his drought when he accepted a gift pass from fullback Ayden Pyper (Townsville) to score under the posts.
Like several of the tour games, the scoreline did not reflect the commitment shown by the home team. The Stags were unlucky not to break the tourists' line, after mounting plenty of pressure in the first five minutes. The Stags also delivered plenty of big hits throughout the game which created some of the loose ball. However, it was ultimately the ability of the Barbas to control the ball at the breakdown and then shift it to the fast moving backs that was the difference.
It was a particularly special occasion for coach David Conyers who has now master minded six undefeated Australian teams touring the US.
Point scorers: Adan Conway 2, Andrew Kleise 2, Martin Van Staden, Joe Marshall, Jack Poplawski, Rudi Wentzell, Ayden Pyper, Jesse James, Cameron Knights, Andre Van Staden tries; Ross Morrissey 4, Jim Connors 3 conversions.
The Outback Barbarians now head to San Francisco before heading back to Australia.
