Mareeba Combined Agents yarded 581 head for this week’s Prime and Store Sale.
One major export processor, one live exporter and one local wholesale buyer were absent, which encouraged values to trend backwards from last week’s good sale, particularly for bullocks and good heavy steers.
Better quality well finished heifers sold to rates around 10-12c/kg below last week’s best money.
Local wholesale cows gained about 9c. Export slaughter cows remained firm with the majority of sales from 180c – 238c. Export slaughter bulls sold to rates in line with the previous week’s top of 250c.
Medium and light weight bulls sold well with rates edging into 240c/kg range. Competition is very strong for this category.
Good quality steers hit 310c and very good cross bred heifers sold to 296c.
