A former Hannaford district property caretaker, Rex Dennis Tresize, pleaded guilty to 16 charges relating to stock stealing and property offences in the Dalby Magistrates Court last week.
The case was heard before Magistrate Kate Ryan who fined Mr Tresize $25,000 and ordered him to pay restitution of $15,000 within 28 days.
The 67-year-old, who is currently now living in Guyra, NSW, was the caretaker living on the Britton family’s Hannaford district property, Kiama, from November 2011 until March 2013.
In total, Mr Tresize appeared in court charged with 44 counts including suspicion of stealing livestock, illegal branding, using an unregistered brand or mark on livestock and travelling livestock without a waybill.
Other counts heard were having possession of branding instruments and pliers relating to an earmark when not entitled to use them and forging counterfeit travel permit waybills.
Counts of illegally travelling livestock, breaching misleading information on NLIS tags, and dishonestly obtaining property were also heard.
Mr Tresize pleaded guilty to one count of receiving tainted property, one count of stealing stock involving 50 head of cattle and receiving $15,000 in sale proceeds from cattle.
Other charges included three counts of forging counterfeited licence certificates and travelling stock without completed permits and waybills.
Mr Tresize also pleaded guilty to two counts of having possession of branding instruments and pliers without entitlement.
He pleaded guilty to one count of giving false and misleading information on NLIS tags, one count of illegal branding and three counts of travelling stock without a waybill.
An assault charge causing bodily harm dating back to July 2014 was adjourned.
The Queensland Stock and Rural Crime Investigation Squad has been working on Mr Tresize’s case since 2013.
