Toogoolawah yarded 1070 cattle at its third sale in three weeks. The market for feeder steers was improved, while a lighter number of weaners met strong completion and held their recent very good values.
Charolais cross steers sold to $1770. D & K Wood sold Santa cross milk tooth 20 mths to $1570 and Charolais cross to $1520. R & A McIntosh, Maleny, had 20 mths Charbray steers for $1460. Stanley House Grazing Co sold Charolais cross steers 2 years for $1425. Redbank Trust had a quality line of Santa steers 16 mths for $1335 and $1225.
N & S Stewart Droughtmaster steers 10 mths for $1085. G & C Beanland had 8 mth Charolais cross steers for $875 and $850. Lester and Linda Heck sold Charolais cross steers 6-7 mths for $860 and $830. N & C Retschlag had 20 mths Charolais cross steers for $1380. Mary Birchley, Eidsvold, sold two decks of quality weaners steers 6-7 mths, topping at $990 with the younger steers for $765 and $700.
The heifer market was very strong with the Charolais cross heifers 16-18 mths returning to breeders for $1150 from Mark and Sarah Connors and $1170 from Michael and Shane Francis. Redbank Trust had Santa cross heifers 16 mths for $1030 and $915. Ken Robinson, Gatton, sold Brahman cross heifers 12 mths for $870.
Geoff and Leanne Hartwig, Eidsvold, sold Angus Hereford cross heifer 16-18 mths for $100 and $985. L and L Heck sold Charolais cross heifers 6-8 mths for $730. Summerholm Farms sold Charolais cross heifers of 6 mths for $700.
Very good quality Charbray and Droughtmaster cows 9-10 years PTIC to Charolais bulls met strong competition, with a line of 56 head from Mount View Pastoral Co topping at $1470 with pens of $1400 and $1390. Bruce and Anne McLaughlin Charolais cross cows sold for $1590, while King and Turnbull quality Charbray cows and calves realised $1800.
Tom and Anne Wilkinson, Fernvale Charolais, sold their annual turnoff of nine Charolais and two Charbray bulls. These met strong competition with a top of $4250 twice and others for $3500 and $3250 to average $3100 for the entire draft.
