I hate to sound like a broken record – really I do – BUT reaalllllyyyyy. This whole slow internet thing is starting to turn me into a crazy woman. I’d like to acknowledge all the hard work that installers of new satellites are putting in to reach as many people as possible, but it’s hard not feel like there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to how people are being chosen at all. I am stamping my feet and crossing my arms all over the place in the meantime.
I sent my application form in so long ago now that I can barely even remember doing it. When my in-laws (who live on the same property) received their phone call to confirm an installation date I was the tiniest bit jealous. I contacted NBN to see about having ours installed at the same time given that the installer would be travelling so far to get here. Surely that would make some kind of sense? But alas, our name wasn’t even in their system at that point, and so we were left at the mercy of the interim satellite.
Having made sure my name was in the system and having received a new modem in the mail, I started to feel more confident about an impending phone call confirming our installation. And then when our neighbours received their call confirming their installation date (and I had still heard nothing) I felt more deflated.
After calling through again today (I honestly feel sorry for the guy who has to keep driving out this way to install satellite connections when it could all be done at once), I have left a message for someone to call me back (seriously – I was not going to stick around on the phone all day when I was number 159 in the queue) and get this ball really rolling. Enough is enough. School holidays are approaching and I am pretty sure (after having only gotten back online today after having our service suspended for ‘overuse’) we can bet on using and then losing our data in the next two weeks again.
The selection process appears to be somewhat like the process of being selected to teach out west.
“Hello Jessie. We would like to offer you a full time permanent teaching position in St George, Western Queensland.”
“But you can’t! I put part time casual Brisbane on my forms!”
“We can, and we just did.”
So I am waiting for Skymuster. It doesn’t matter what I put on my form, or when I put it on. NBN are limited in what they can do and how they can do it, and nothing I say is going to change anything. Fingers crossed I get some good news soon!
