Larry Bidgood wasn’t at the Roma Store Sale to see his Angus cross steers and heifers sell on Tuesday but his brother, Byran and father, Victor were on the rails and predicted he’d be pretty happy with the result.
“Well I certainly never saw prices like that,” said Victor, who has retired from the family’s Condamine property to Toowoomba.
“I’d say he’d be well and truly happy.”
Mr Bidgood sold 52 Angus weaner steers averaging 248kg for 384c/kg to return $952/head straight off their mothers.
The 36 females, weighing 218kg made 334c/kg to return $730/head.
Bryan Bidgood said the prices capped off a good week for his brother who’d also received 25mm on an emerging oats crop on Wurama at Condamine on Saturday.
Roma agents yarded a rain reduced 1790 head for Tuesday’s sale but with the annual offering of Kindee weaners due next, Landmark’s Rod Turner is expected a return to more normal winter sale numbers.
“I'd say we’ll get 5000 next week just with the Kindee cattle coming and those that couldn’t get cattle out this week due to the rain,” he said.
“The Shaw family’s weaners are coming the week after that too so I think after July is when the worry about numbers dropping off will start to kick in.”
Mr Turner said store prices this week were on par with last week’s red hot market.
“The best feeders made about 347c/kg and weaners reached 398c/kg,” Mr Turner said.
