Lockyer Valley Polocrosse Club is riding on a high after their annual carnival was well attended over the weekend.
2016 has seen the club experience a downturn in membership after some members moved interstate and others to larger clubs.
What the club lacked in numbers it made up for with a passion for polocrosse and the drive to keep their annual carnival on the Queensland calendar.
A small dedicated group of players and supporters worked hard to put on a great weekend of polocrosse action in Lockyer Valley.
The carnival, well known for its laid back atmosphere and great hospitality, attracted players and spectators from all over south east Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Almost 230 players and their horses took to the field to battle it out for club pride.
Lockyer Valley Polocrosse Club secretary, Scott Colwell said it was a great weekend with 38 teams attending showing great support from south east zone clubs.
“The weather was beautiful and the fields played excellently with close competition across the grades,” Mr Colwell said.
Tansey 1 and Gold Coast 1 went head to head in the A Grade final with Tansey coming out victorious.
The A grade best horse and rider award went to Tansey club member Trent Collins.
The Natasha Croft Memorial Trophy, presented in honor of a Lockyer Valley Polocrosse Club member who was killed in a car accident, was awarded to the champion lady player of the carnival Emma Hafey, Tansey Polocrosse Club.
With Lockyer Valley Polocrosse Club’s playing members down to just 9 this year, the club took to the field with just one full team and came out runners-up in D Grade behind Tansey 4.
Lockyer Valley Polocrosse Club is looking to rebuild their club by increasing their membership base in 2016 and 2017.
Mr Colwell said the club was looking to re-establish itself as a strong club in south east Queensland.
“We welcome any new players who would like to try the action packed game of polocrosse or those who have previously played and want to return to the sport,” he said.
