The recent outpouring of community support for the plight of struggling dairy farmers and the question of ‘how can we help’ was the catalyst for Toowoomba Farmers Market founder Fiona May to get on the phone and talk to producers.
The result is a crisis forum to be held tomorrow (Saturday) morning on site at the Toowoomba Farmers Market, in East Toowoomba.
The event, which will be held between 11.15 and 12 Noon, will be an opportunity to educate consumers about the current industry crisis.
“Choosing what milk to buy, who to support and where the money is going are questions that this forum will answer” Fiona said.
High Profile Dairy Farmer Greg Dennis (or “Farmer Gregie” as he is better known as) owner, founder and passionate educator from 4 Real Milk will be leading the forum; encouraging questions, creating awareness of why the industry is in crisis and welcoming audience participation. Thereafter, other local dairy farmers have been invited to tell their story too.
“We are honoured to be able to provide a platform at the Toowoomba Farmers Market for our local dairy producers to talk to consumers directly” Fiona said.
“And optimistically, if consumers understand the importance of why they should support local dairy’s and business’s, and find out how to do just that, some good will come of it”
