FOR Steve Pailthorpe from Rangeview, Monto, came to the inaugural Monto Charbray and Charbray-infused Cattle Show Sale with one aim – to sell his cattle.
Instead, Steve walked away with a host of prizes after his pen of steers was announced as the champion pen for the sale.
The sale is boasting a yarding of about 1200 head, coming from areas including Taroom, Bundaberg and Rockhampton.
Steve, 39, runs about 80 breeders on his 800 hectare property, and he said he was very happy with the result.
“Well it’s pretty good, I’m pretty happy with that,” he said.
After starting to breed Charbrays in 1999, Steve said he had never looked back.
“I just always liked them, and so I’ve stuck with them,” he said.
This year is the first for the one-breed sale, and Steve said he hoped it would continue.
“I think it’s really good,” he said.
“I hope they keep going with it.”
Steve said he was hoping for good prices, like everyone else at the sale.
“We’ll just see what happens, the market has been strong, it has eased a little bit but it has been strong,” he said.
