Producers have been given an extra week to enter Australia’s only Wagyu competition of its kind, which offers $10,000 in prizemoney.
Entries for the RNA’s brand new 2016/2017 Paddock to Palate Wagyu Challenge have been extended to close Friday, June 3.
Numbers will be capped at 259 animals (37 pens) so exhibitors are encouraged to get in quick to ensure they don’t miss out on steaking their claim.
Entries for the inaugural 330 day competition are open to Wagyu and Wagyu-cross cattle (minimum 50% Wagyu blood).
This new breed specific competition will form part of next year’s prestigious RNA Paddock to Palate Competition, presented by Mort & Co.
It has been introduced to give some of the nation’s best Wagyu producers a platform to showcase their high quality stock, as well as promote Wagyu to the Australian consumer.
The competition is also in line with the RNA’s commitment to celebrate and champion agriculture by recognising industry excellence and encouraging consumer promotion.
The Wagyu Challenge is a four phased competition, comprising best aggregate weight gain (over 330 days); a carcass competition; carcass value and a beef taste off – a palate competition where a portion of striploin is cooked and judged. The winners will be announced in 2017.
Each pen the exhibitor enters will comprise of seven steers, with the best six judged.
Entries close next Friday. For more information or to enter go to www.ekka.com.au
