ABOUT 500 racegoers dressed up for a big day at the annual Beaudesert Hibernian Charity Races on Sunday to raise money for the Queensland Cancer Council.
It was all happening at the Beaudesert Race Club with horse races, yabbie races, raffles, fashions on the field, a three course luncheon and more.
The 2016 Beaudesert Hibernian Cup went to Tequila Slammer which was trained by Beaudesert’s Paul Dawson, followed by Legsman in second and Betterthanyouthink in third place.
A generous crowd raised $6800 for the Beaudesert Cancer Council with the raffles alone.
Beaudesert Cancer Council chairperson Jenny Enright said the luncheon was one of the biggest and best for several years, with 162 people attending.
“I think we’re getting known for a great family day out,” she said.
“We had new entertainment, new food and everybody said they had a fantastic day.”
The races were a popular day, with busloads of people coming out from Brisbane and others travelling from around the south-east corner.
The Fashions of the Field were hotly contested by both the men and women, with Australian Community Media group managing editor Brad Cooper taking out the men’s prize and Colleen Keehn for the ladies.
The 2017 Hibernian Charity Races will be held on May 22 next year.
