THE Atkinson family’s 59,570 hectare (147,318 acre) Greenvale property Wade was passed in for $5.2 million at a Ray White Rural auction today. There were four registered bidders.
The property is being sold to finalise a family partnership.
The Atkinsons have been in North Queensland for over 150 years and have successfully run cattle in all this time, firstly at Greenvale Station then Lucky Downs adjoining Greenvale.
Wade was auctioned on a walk-in walk-out basis. The rolling term lease is located 50km south of Greenvale and is being offered with about 3680 good quality red Brahman/Droughtmaster-cross cattle.
As the current generation came into the business they expanded firstly to the coast then west to Hughenden and Katherine, eventually disposing of the interests and settling back in Greenvale on Wade Station, They purchased The 12 Mile to grow out their sale cattle.
The process to split the partnership was worked-out some five years ago. However, drought and poor cattle prices frustrated the process. During this time the partners have registered a separate brand and PIC number for Wade consequently all the cattle offered for sale with the property will have been running on Wade for five plus years or have been born on the property.
Wade is described as an extremely good breeding property with abundant natural grasses. It is watered by two rivers and three springs all of which either run or have numerous big water holes. In addition there are 63 made waters including five operating bores and the balance dams most of which have been desilted during the past six months.
It is described as an extremely good breeding property with abundant natural grasses.
The property has a secure boundary, seven big paddocks along with weaner and holding paddocks. Other improvements include a house, workers quarters, sheds, two sets of yards, and a comprehensive molasses storage system. Station plant is also included in the sale.
