THE 1962-hectare (4848 acre) Western Downs property Doonkoona at The Gums was passed in for $2.2 million at an Elders auction in Dalby today (Thursday).
Offered by Ron and Lorraine Booth, who are based at Burunga, Wandoan, the property has about 1200ha of cultivation in addition to 732ha of grazing pastures.
Bidding started at $2m before rising to $2.2m. Marketing agent Mick Cuskelly said negotiations were still in progress.
The brigalow/belah country features deep soft soils that are largely level grey and red loam running to heavier soils. Areas of the grazing country have been blade ploughed and improved with bambatsi, purple pigeon and buffel grass.
The versatile property is divided into three grazing and seven farming paddocks. It is described as suitable for grain and forage production as well as finishing, backgrounding and breeding cattle.
Infrastructure includes two large homes, a large steel-framed machinery shed with enclosed workshop, four silos, portable steel yards, a number of old buildings and good cattle-proof fencing. Water is supplied from 10 dams and a bore.
Mr Cuskelly said there was also plenty of interest being shown in GP Cattle’s 7410ha (18,311 acre) Condamine property Cotswold which will be auctioned by Elders on June 1.
Cotswold has a double frontage to the Condamine River, water licences, and five centre pivot irrigators.
