CENTRAL Darling Downs farmer Fraser McIntyre says smartphones have made it easier than ever to document farm life through photos.
The 21-year-old works for Toowoomba-based business Downfields Engineering during the week and regularly helps out on the family farm on weekends.
“I enjoy taking photos of what goes on at home and keeping a record,” he said.
Mr McIntyre’s sorghum harvest photo was voted the top shot in the #Qldharvest16 competition by readers. He will receive a $500 voucher, courtesy of sponsor Pacific Seeds.
The crop of Pacific Seeds MR-Buster was planted on dryland, short fallow country and yielded more than seven tonnes per hectare. The McIntyre family harvested 73 hectares of MR-Buster and MR-Scorpio sorghum on their Jondaryan property.
Most of the crop was sold at the time of harvest, with some going to local feedlots.
“It’s dried off pretty well now but we had a good summer crop overall,” he said.
“We’re waiting on rain now but we’re fertilised and ready to go for the winter crop.”
