Anger and concern about the Palaszczuk Government’s proposed changes to the Vegetation Management Framework continues to grow.
Over the weekend, a new petition was launched which provides a platform for Queenslanders to express their opposition and send a message to the Palaszczuk Government about the new vegetation management laws.
I would urge all AgForce members to sign the petition. Paper petitions will be circulated across Queensland over coming months while an e-petition can be found on the Queensland Parliament website under petitions.
The outrageous changes to the Vegetation Management Framework will take away farmers’ property rights, stifle development and jeopardise jobs in regional Queensland.
Farmers work hard to ensure they manage their land sustainably and they need security and certainty for investment. These laws take away that certainty and economic security.
The petition requests the Queensland Parliament not to support the new vegetation management legislation in its current form and to reject amendments that would water down existing property rights and remove opportunities for sustainable agricultural production.
The petition closes on Tuesday 16 August 2016.
Last chance for submissions to Agriculture and Environment Committee inquiry
This week is the last chance for AgForce members to make a submission to the Parliamentary committee investigating the proposed new vegetation management laws.
This is your opportunity to tell the Agriculture and Environment Committee exactly how the Vegetation Management (Reinstatement) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2016 will affect your business.
It’s important as many individuals as possible explain how the laws will impact them personally so the committee gets a better understanding of the disastrous impact this Bill will have on the agricultural sector.
You can write your own submission by visiting the Queensland Parliament website and following the instructions.
Alternatively, AgForce has prepared a submission template which we have previously circulated that could assist you. Submissions close on Monday 25 April, but as that is Anzac Day and a public holiday, effectively written submissions will need to be lodged by this Friday.
As always, thank you all for your support and members should not hesitate to contact me or AgForce policy staff if you need assistance.
