This is a call to arms of all supporters of the Queensland agricultural industry. Now is the time for landholders to have their say about the Palaszczuk government’s Vegetation Management Bill.
The Bill was introduced into Parliament on March 17 and has horrific consequences for Queensland producers and their ability to manage their vegetation effectively.
A committee inquiry is calling for submissions into the Bill by Monday, April 25.
This Bill represents the 18th time the Vegetation Management Framework has been amended since its introduction in 1999. This constant changing of legislation severely affects the ability of primary producers to plan and deliver effective long-term property and business management decisions.
Land management is an evolving process that can be severely compromised when mismatched, constantly changing regulations are enforced. Farmers have long called for certainty with the vegetation management regulatory framework.
AgForce members and supporters of ag are urged to make submissions to the committee. It’s important as many individuals as possible explain how the laws will impact them so the committee gets a better understanding of the disastrous impact this Bill will have on the agricultural sector.
You can write your own submission by going to the Queensland Parliament website and following the instructions. Alternatively AgForce has prepared a submission template that could assist you in quickly and easily completing a submission that contains your own opinion with direct reference to key provisions of the legislation.
If you have any questions or require assistance, contact senior policy adviser Dr Greg Leach, leachg@agforceqld.org.au.
The Bill is currently before parliament’s Agriculture and Environment Committee which is due to report on June 30. – Grant Maudsley, AgForce general president
