The popularity of dinners run by Leading Sheep in the central west continues to grow, shown by another “full house” at the most recent event held at the Qantas Founders Museum.
They were entertained by Sallyanne Atkinson, formerly Brisbane’s first and only female Lord Mayor and a member of Australia’s Olympic Committee, who has more recently taken on a role as a director with the Waltzing Matilda Centre in Winton.
She described herself as “someone from the city who has an understanding of the bush”, saying she first fell off a horse when visiting a school friend at Boulia.
“One of the toughest things to deal with in the bush is change, especially things that are beyond your control,” she said.
When questioned on the disconnect between city and country, Ms Atkinson said the bush had to talk more about the good things it offered.
She commented on the way overseas backpackers came here for holidays and didn’t want to leave, and said the same idea had to be created for Australian youth.
