LIKE many grain growers, Warra’s Brendan Taylor can grow multiple crop types in a normal summer cropping season.
In the 2015/2016 season, Mr Taylor planted early sorghum in mid-September and late mungbean in mid to late December.
Keeping up to date with the latest breeding updates, agronomic information and marketing opportunities for these crops can nearly be a full time job in itself.
Mr Taylor has found that attending the Australian Summer Grains Conference allows him to take advantage of getting the latest updates for all of his summer crops at the one place at the one time. The triennial conference is on from 7-9 March 2016 at the RACV Royal Pines resort at the Gold Coast.
It is brought together by the crop groups behind the five major summer crops- sorghum, maize, sunflower, mungbean and soybean. It highlights all aspects of these crops in the one location for a power packed three-day event.
The focus of the 2016 conference is ‘Securing Your Future’ and with speakers covering a range of topics from the latest research to new technology available to farmers there is sure to be a session to suit any interested delegates. As an added bonus, all registered delegates can go in the draw to win a DJI Phantom 3 professional drone system, a sure boost to any farming business.

This year the committee behind the conference have included an industry development workshop on the Monday afternoon, prior to the main conference sessions beginning Tuesday morning.
The event concludes with the GRDC Gala Dinner and Industry Awards presentations on Wednesday night. These awards include Significant Contribution to sorghum, maize, sunflower, soybean and mungbean, Elders Innovation in Technology Awards, GRDC Farmer and Women in Agriculture Awards and the Zoe McInnes Memorial Award.
Mr Taylor said the event is highly beneficial to his business and his own professional development. With over 350 delegates registered, the conference is also a great place for building networks.
“The inclusion of international speakers in the program allows delegates to hear the latest on what is going on in their industry in other countries, as well as share what the Australian industry is doing well with those delegates for them to take back to their peers in their home country,” Mr Taylor said.
A great line-up of local speakers are also on offer to delegates covering a range of topics from new technologies to the latest research updates and marketing opportunities.
