Cat trucks recently announced exit from the US truck market will not affect the Australian business.
The company, best known for its mining, earthmoving and construction equipment, announced it would discontinue production of its on-highway trucks in the US.
Cat trucks launched in Australia in 2010 as did the company’s short lived foray into the American on-highway truck market.
The decision to quit the North American market marks a major about face for the company which just last year announced it would independently design and manufacture its own truck range separate from Navistar, who it had previously partnered with.
Australian supplied Cat trucks have always been, and will continue to be, rebadged Navistar vehicles.
Cat trucks Australia said the North American models had never been available in the local and New Zealand markets and were built on an entirely different cab and chassis platform than the Navistar sourced on-highway units sold in Australia.
Cat trucks director of sales and marketing, Glen Sharman said it would be “business as usual for Cat truck dealers in Australia and New Zealand.
“We can assure everyone, particularly current and prospective Cat truck customers, that Caterpillar’s announcement has no bearing on our business in Australia and New Zealand.”
