Dapper men and women from across the state assisted in raising nearly $30,000 for Ovarian Cancer research at the inaugural Cocktails for a Cure event at Jimbour House on Saturday night.
Cocktails, canapes, raffles, auctions and live music entertained the crowd of 340 before a beautiful backdrop on a gorgeous evening for a good cause.
Event organiser Edwina McVeigh said the support she received was overwhelming.
“My expectations were blown away. Guests were there to have a great time but everyone really took on board why they were there,” she said.
Mater Research associate professor and guest speaker, Dr John Hooper, defined Ovarian Cancer and discussed the Mater Research Institute’s progress with various research projects.
“Only 40% of women diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer are alive at the five year mark so we have a long way to go,” he said.
“Research is vital, but research relies on donations from generous people like you in attendance tonight.”
Mrs McVeigh said the success of the night gave the event merit for annual occurrence and thanked the Russell Family, Jimbour House, the Mater Foundation and countless donations from businesses and individuals for making the night one to remember.
