THE opportunities being created by the Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport and the promise of an inland rail system are already delivering untold opportunities for agriculture on the Darling Downs.
Participants in Queensland Country Life’s Grow Queensland Forum in Toowoomba today heard that both the buyers and markets already existed in Asia ready and were demanding the high quality, safe food that was able to be produced throughout the region. That demand would only grow as the percentage of the population entered the middle class increased.
However, the lack of infrastructure – especially high speed internet access as well as efficient transport links – were continuing to hinder the development of agricultural businesses. The lack of infrastructure was also identified as a key reason why rural areas continued to struggle to attract people including healthcare and other professionals.
The next Grow Queensland forum will be held in Quilpie on March 3.
