Well-regarded drafts of stud Australian White rams and ewes were offered on account the Gilmore family, Tattykeel stud, Oberon; Josh Clinton, Camden Valley stud, The Oaks, and Robert Gilmore, Ardess, Oberon at the ninth multi-vendor sale of Australian Whites at Narrandera.
Strong bidding by Landmark sheep specialist Stephen Chalmers saw him secure the top priced ram for $6000.
Offered by the Gilmore family from their Tattykeel stud, Oberon, the stud ram was purchased through Landmark Dubbo, for an undisclosed client.
Mr Chalmers said the ram was selected for the softness of his skin, length of body and terrific structure.
“He is a good shape with great hindquarters and stands well on his feet,” he said.
Other significant sales of stud rams included one for $4500 bought by Daniel Lustenberger, Tarcutta, while Bernard Brennan, “Homebush Park”, Binalong paid $3750 and $2000 respectively for his selection.
Mr Brennan also selected three stud ewes for $1400 average.
Volume buyers of rams included the Jones family from Condobolin who bought 13 to top of $2000 and average of $1723, and Richard Skinner, Darlington Point who took home 11 rams for average price $1409.
Ralph Biermann, from Gundaroo selected three rams to top of $2300 and average of $1966, and Joan Kevill, from Canberra bought four rams for average of $1225.
Interstate buyers included Hamish Sinclair, from Benalla who took six rams home for average price $1650 and Adrain Flett, also from Benalla who purchased a stud ewe for $1400, and a stud ram for $2200.
James Gilmore, Tattykeel stud, Oberon said all buyers were issued with certificates of authenticity validated by the Australian White Sheep Breeders association.
“They document the authenticity, proving the animals are pure bred from a stud registered with the Association,” Mr Gilmore said.
Speaking on behalf of the vendors, Robert Gilmore, Ardess stud, Oberon, said it was a very good sale and perhaps reflecting the quality of the stock many repeat clients were present.
“It is the best ram sale we have had in Narrandera, but it was a bit quite on the ewes offered,” he said.
The sale was conducted by Ray White Rural, Temora with Michael Glasser, GTSM, Patrice Vale, Victoria taking the bids.
