With significant recent rain events in the local area Rockhampton combined agents sold a small yarding totalling 841 head at Gracemere on February 5. The yarding comprised 496 steers, 132 cows, 173 heifers, 17 cows and calves and 23 bulls. The market was firm to dearer in all categories, slaughter cattle were in demand and feeder cattle also lifted this week. Weaner steers met with very strong market, with a good panel of re-stockers present. John Bell and family, Bouldercombe, sold Droughtmaster cross prime steers to top at 291c/kg weighing 591kg to return $1722/head. Fenech Grazing Co, Wowan, sold prime Brahman cows to top at 250c weighing 536kg to return $1342.

Mark and Sarah Connors of Esk sold Angus cross steers 17 months for $1465 and Charolais cross steers for $1300 at a wet February 5 Toogoolawah sale. Harvey and Clarke sold Droughtmaster, Brahman cross steers two years for $1460 and $1400. Mike Conroy sold Droughtmaster steers 22 months for $1300. John Masters Charolais cross steers 18 months realised $1215, Ross and Tracey Tinney had Charbray steers 16-17 months for $1220. Margaret Wilson sold Droughtmaster steers 16 months for $1165. Garry Hahn sold 15 months Charolais cross steers for $1200. W&A Oxenford sold Angus cross steers 14 months for $1070. Kepise Pty Ltd sold 20 months Charolais cross steers for $1235.

Agents Boyd O’Brien Bartholomew reported a yarding of 714 head of cattle on February 9. Competition was very strong which resulted in overall improvement of values in all descriptions. A&E Marriott, Nanango, sold Charbray cross yearling heifers for 325.2c weighing 250kg to return $813. M&R Pulsford, Toogoolawah, sold yearling Charolais steers for 327.2c weighing 295kg to return $965. D&L Strong Family Trust, Fernvale, sold Charolais cross pasture heifers for 311.2c weighing 387kg to return $1205. TM&L Harrington, Helidon, sold Charolais cross pasture steers for 316.2c weighing 435kg to return $1375.

Mike Wheeler Livestock and Property offered 230 cattle, vealers and calves on February 6 and 8. The yarding featured some outstanding young cattle that met a fully firm to dearer market. Processing cattle appear to have levelled in price following the downturn earlier this year. An quality draft of Charbray cross vealers, 7 months from PG Zoeller, Toogoolawah, returned $1026.
