Grain Growers Limited director John Eastburn has returned to the position of chairman following the sudden resignation Narrabri farmer Andrew Carberry.
Mr Eastburn was previously chairman between 2008-2014.
At a meeting of the GGL board in Sydney this week, Mr Carberry stood down due to family commitments.
Mr Eastburn, a grain grower from Baradine in North West NSW, is an experienced member of the board having served as a director since 2006.
Mr Eastburn thanked Mr Carberry for his contribution to the organisation.
“Under Andrew's leadership GrainGrowers has continued to mature into an organisation that is well placed to represent the interests of Australia’s grain growers in 2016 and beyond.
“I understand very well the time commitments the chairman’s role requires and I, speaking on behalf of the entire GrainGrowers board, extend sincere appreciation to Andrew for his commitment to, and passion for, the position and the organisation as a whole.”
Mr Eastburn’s appointment assures continuity in a time of potential transition for GrainGrowers.
During late 2015 the GrainGrowers board initiated a wide-ranging review of the organisation’s constitution.
"The board remains committed to the constitution review process. As part of the review the board and executive will carry out national consultation with members to canvass their opinions on matters such as board skill-compilation, voting mechanisms and processes and membership eligibility,” Mr Eastburn said.
He said he was looking forward to engaging with grain growers across Australia as part of the consultation process.
“I am confident that with input across the membership base we can come up with a governance model that will enable the organisation to continue to deliver on its vision – which is to develop and promote a more efficient, sustainable, and profitable grains industry for all Australian grain growers.
