The up and coming A Polocrosse Affair (APA) charity ball is set to be a night of glitz and glamour all in the name of a very worthy cause.
Initiated by four ladies with a connection to polocrosse and rural Queensland in general, the ball aims to raise funds and awareness for rural charities.
This year the committee chose to support the Friendly Faces Helping Hands foundation, providing a link between rural communities and major health facilities.
APA committee member Allana McIntyre said while the ball was arranged by the polocrosse community the committee encouraged anyone interested to attend.
“This event isn’t just for polocrosse people- we invite young and old, city and country folk to join together and support rural Queensland.”
Generous sponsorship has allowed the committee to offer a range of items for auction such as a signed and framed 2015 Cowboys jersey, a holiday for two in Vanuatu and an original painting by The Outback Artist Sandy McLean.
Miss McIntyre said the committee hoped to build on the success of their first event held in 2015.
“The inaugural ball raised $16,000 for Aussie Helpers and funds raised this year will be directed towards health services in at least five regional towns, specifically mental health,” she said.
“Each of us have had experiences where a charity such as Friendly Faces Helping Hands would have been more than welcome.
“Given the increasing level of mental health issues in regional areas, the isolation they face and factors such as drought, we are hoping to get many people on board to help us support this charity.”
