CHARITY has been the big winner of the inaugural Help Kids Like Nick charity fun run when over $60,000 was raised to assist children with Wolf Hirschhorn Syndrome (WHS) at Yuleba last weekend.
209 runners and walkers took to the course to help raise money for Help Kids Like Nick which helps children suffering from WHS – a rare chromosomal disorder that can result in profound disability
Help Kids Like Nick board member Heather Smith said they were delighted with the success of the fun run.
“It’s wonderful to see so many people get behind this event and help families living with Wolf Hirschhorn Syndrome,” she said.
“The money raised will go a long way towards helping these families.”
Runners travelled from near and far to contest a marathon, the 42km Nullin to Yuleba walk, half marathon, 10km walk or run and 5km walk or run.
Celebrity competitors included Senator Barnaby Joyce, and Ms Figure Natural Olympia 2012 and personal trainer Tegan Campbell.
A horse trail ride, held in conjunction with the fun run and organised by the Cobb and Co Country Trail Riders, also attracted a keen band of horse enthusiasts.
Gary Beutel took out the marathon event, while Lachlan Hanly was the winner of the half marathon, Kurt Watter won the 10km run and Charles Sprott won the 5km run. Augathella’s Ryan Henry was the highest fundraiser, raising a total of $2275 for the charity.
A pastel painting by artist Rosie Jones sold at the after dinner auction for $6000 to help boost the fundraising target.
Peter Dawes won the main multi draw raffle of the Queensland Reds package valued at $1700.
