THE St George Show is a perfect reflection of the local community evolving over the years from a three day to a one day show and altering its focus as the region went from wool production to cattle and then to cotton.

This year the show faced a new challenge with the state government’s decision to move the Labour Day public holiday prompting fears that the Sunday Show would fail to attract exhibitors and crowds.
St George Show president, Ben Gardiner, said his enthusiastic committee ensured the Show met its potential and never missed a beat.
The constant at St George has always been the people.

Balonne shire mayor, Donna Stewart, has been going to the show for 45 years.
Her husband Henry has proudly been attending since he was a child, just missing one year in 1980 when he was on the road with cattle.
Vida Hardy has been exhibiting at the show for 78 years solid since she was 10. This year she entered four paintings and won two prizes.
“It keeps me out of mischief and I always win back enough money to cover my entries if not more,” she said.
Already she is working on her entries for the 130th St George Show next year.
